AutoCAD for Mac ships today

Autodesk announced they are shipping AutoCAD for Mac today. For the past 6 months, I worked with two students from Marymount University to Alpha and Beta test of AutoCAD for Mac. We are excited to see this product in production. We are also happy to have helped the AutoCAD developers discover and chase down bugs over the past few months.

AutoCAD coming to iPad, iPhone, returning to Mac

Reuters is reporting this morning that AutoCAD will be available on multiple Mac platforms.

"Autodesk is bringing its AutoCAD architecture, design, and engineering software back to the Mac OS after an 18-year absence, the company announced this evening. But the company plans to do more than offer a Mac OS X version of AutoCAD: It says it will release a free version of the software, dubbed AutoCAD WS, for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch that lets users review, edit, and share AutoCAD files on those popular mobile devices."

AutoCAD and VMWare on a Mac

dabcc.com writes: "Want to leverage the digital lifestyle of your Mac but have one or two Windows applications that you can’t live without? You don’t have to be locked in anymore. Outlook, Windows Media Player, Microsoft Project, AutoCAD, Solidworks…you name it. They all can run in a Windows virtual machine on VMware Fusion."

We still believe that Parallels Desktop 3.0 provides the best AutoCAD experience on a Mac with its Direct X support and Coherence mode (coherence mode allows you to view both your Mac and PC applications at the same time). VMWare seems sluggish from the start and when running AutoCAD is seems even more slow.
