Google shares hi-res tool icons for SketchUp and LayOut

Here's something I didn't know, almost every SketcUp and LayOut icon was modeled using SketchUp by John Bacus. The nice folks at Google/SketchUp have posted high-resolution versions of all these icons for download.

Autodesk gives free AutoCAD and Revit to students, faculty

Autodesk is continuing it popular software program that gives free software (3 year license) to students and faculty. Autodesk recently tweeted: "Students want to change the world. We want to help them do it. Free software for students on the Autodesk Edu Community"

There are 25 software packages in total including: AutoCAD 2011, Revit Architecture 2011, 3ds Max, and Maya.

Competition: 3D Printed Lamp Design Challenge

The folks at SketchUp & Materialise just launched a new design competition. The design challenge is to use Google SketchUp 8 to design a working 3D printable lamp. Materialise will print and assemble lamps for 3 winner (complete with stand and lamp). 

The competition runs from September 3 through October 25th 2010.
