Ethics Awareness Week:
Join us Wed Feb 1 at 12:30 in the library board room to discuss the ethics of Internet piracy.

Scenario:  10% of internet traffic at Marymount is bit-torrent related. BitTorrent is a peer to peer file sharing network that allows Marymount students/faculty/staff to download and share large files with others. Most files shared with BitTorrents are protected by US copyright law (movies, software, music, tv shows). The university has no official policy concerning file sharing software on campus.

When is it ethical to download/share a movie or tv show over the Internet?

When a student uses BitTorrent to download or share a copyrighted movie, have they violated the ethical component of the student code of conduct?

In the Catholic tradition, Marymount emphasizes ethics and values across the curriculum and in all aspects of campus life.  What is the University's role in addressing online Internet piracy?

We've been experimenting with Autodesk's Revit Cloud Rendering engine in class. It's a very powerful tool for my students who's computers never seem to be up to spec for quality rendering. Here is a sample rendering with varying render qualities. You'll see in each image that the render time is VERY fast.

All images were rendered with the Advanced Exposure settings at 1,000px by 750px.

Best quality - 16.2 minute rendering time
High quality - 7.8 minute rendering time
Standard quality - 1.1minute rendering time
Draft quality - 27 second rendering time

The service is available free to Autodesk subscription customers. Based on our short testing period it also appears to be free to students with active student licenses.

Today Autodesk announced today two new products for the Mac.

AutoCAD WS for Mac will be available Thursday Agust 18th through the Mac App store. According to the product launch screen cast, AutoCAD WS for Mac will be very similar to the AutoCAD WS web app.
