SketchUp Basics for Interior Design

This SketchUp workshop is appropriate for individuals with no prior knowledge of SketchUp. I hope this workshop will help you develop a basic understanding of SketchUp and how you can effectively use this software to digitally model / design space in the design studio.

More specifically, I am hoping this workshop is a chance for you to investigate the following questions:
  • What is the difference between Google SketchUp and Google SketchUp Pro?
  • What are the basic modeling tools in SketchUp?
  • What is the relationship between SketchUp components and AutoCAD blocks? How can components help you organize your model?
  • How does setting up perspective (or scenes) early in your SketchUp model help you more efficiently model / design the spaces in your perspectives?
  • How do you create a high quality perspective?
  • How does setting up perspective (or scenes) early in your SketchUp model help you more efficiently model / design the spaces in your perspectives?
  • How do you create a high quality perspective?
  • How do you modify existing components? What is the difference between a component and a group?
  • How can you use groups and components to control visibility when modeling?

Intermediate SketchUp for Interior Design

This workshop is appropriate for individuals with an intermediate understanding of SketchUp and those that attended the first student workshop. I hope this workshop will help you develop an advanced understanding of SketchUp and how you can effectively use this software to digitally model / design space in the design studio.

More specifically, I am hoping this workshop is a chance for you to investigate the following questions:
  • How do you import existing AutoCAD drawings and Revit projects into SketchUp? What are the advantages and disadvantages of importing existing drawings?
  • What are the methods available to export views of our SketchUp model?  What are the advantages and disadvantages of each method?
  • How can you create digitally rendered perspectives combining both SketchUp and Adobe Photoshop?
  • What steps are required in printing high quality renderings from SketchUp?  How do the printed versions compare with the images on your computer monitors?
